Al-Rahib (The Devout Christian Convert), Illuminator of the Mosque • رضي الله عنه
A Christian monk and scholar from Palestine who journeyed to Madinah with ten kinsmen in 9 AH to embrace Islam. Brought oil lamps from Syria to illuminate the Prophet's Mosque for the first time, for which the Prophet ﷺ made supplication for him. The only companion from whom the Prophet ﷺ narrated a hadith on the minbar (the famous Hadith of the Jassasah).
“The Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit and addressed the companions saying: 'By Allah, I did not assemble you for hope or fear, but because Tamim al-Dari was a Christian man who came and pledged allegiance and accepted Islam, and he narrated to me a story matching what I used to tell you about the Dajjal...'”
