The Patient Forerunner Tormented upon Burning Embers • رضي الله عنه
The sixth person on earth to embrace Islam. Worked as a blacksmith in Makkah and endured brutal torture; his pagan owners pressed his bare back onto burning charcoal embers until his flesh extinguished the embers. Taught the Qur'an secretly in Makkah and was reading Surah Ta-Ha in the home of Fatimah bint al-Khattab when Umar accepted Islam.
“Khabbab complained of their severe torture to the Prophet ﷺ while he was leaning against the Ka'bah. The Prophet ﷺ sat up and said: 'Among those before you, a man would be placed in a trench and a saw placed upon his head, cutting him into two halves, yet that would not turn him away from his religion! By Allah, this matter will be completed until a rider travels from Sana'a to Hadramawt fearing none but Allah.'”
