Dhu an-Nur (The Possessor of Light), Chieftain of Daws • رضي الله عنه
Chieftain and poet of Banu Daws who was cautioned by Quraysh to stuff his ears with cotton in Makkah so as not to hear the Prophet's recitation. He decided to listen with an open mind, was captivated by the beauty of the Qur'an, and accepted Islam immediately. The Prophet ﷺ gave him a miraculous light (*Nur*) on his whip. He returned to his people and brought his entire tribe—including Abu Hurayrah—to Islam at Khaybar. Martyred at Yamama.
“Al-Tufayl came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'Banu Daws have rebelled, so supplicate against them!' But the Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, guide Banu Daws and bring them to us!' Soon after, Al-Tufayl arrived with eighty families who had embraced Islam.”
