Musa ibn Nusayr

Musa ibn Nusayr (رحمه الله) was the brilliant Umayyad governor of North Africa who brought the entire Maghreb—from modern Libya to the Atlantic shores of Morocco—permanently into the Islamic fold. Recognizing the martial excellence of the native Berbers, he integrated them into Islamic civil administration and military command, appointing Tariq ibn Ziyad to govern Tangier. Following Tariq's initial breakthrough, Musa crossed with 18,000 troops, capturing Seville, Carmona, and Mérida, and pushing forward through Zaragoza to the foothills of the Pyrenees.
